But did you realize they might also be attractive to the ears? If you were a bird, what kind of feathers would you want to have? Based upon what you've learned about feathers, design the perfect feathers for the bird you'd like to be. What color would they be? Would they be short and compact to keep you warm? Or would you prefer long, strong feathers to help you fly high in the sky?

Create a picture of the feathers you'd like to have. Feel free to use crayons, markers, or colored pencils to make a vibrant picture of your unique feathers. Or, if you prefer, you can create a new feather design using a computer and basic software that lets you draw on the screen. Given the kind of bird you'd like to be and where you'd like to live, what engineering considerations would go into your feather design?
